Let it snow!

Hello!  Is it beginning to look a lot like Christmas where you are?  It sure is here.  There are huge flakes falling as I write this, in fact. 

Today's card was one that I had a lot of fun making.  I started off with the idea of using this tree die cut from the Cricut cartridge Jolly Holidays.  Instead of using the ornaments that came with the cut, I used some little jems for ornaments.  I also covered the snow in Frosted Lace stickles.  I love that color for snow, because it's less glittery and more about giving texture.  I used foam dots to raise the bottom snow pile up, although you can't really see that from the picture.

I used a piece of background paper from a DCWV pack I picked up at Michaels.  It has gold foil accents- I tried to get a picture that showed the foil, and I thinkn the best way to tell is by looking at the tree in the top middle.  I ran two strings of ribbon around the card and then put a scrap piece of paper over it with the die cut on top. 

Next, I stamped a sentiment from Jaded Blossom's Christmas Wishes stamp set onto a tag from a die cut pack I also got at Michaels.  I used a pearl to mimic the look of having it attached with something other than just monoadhesive.  Then I added three more pearls in the top corner to balance it out.

Today I've got a festive little friend to share with you.  :)

At the holidays, in addition to our Christmas cards that go out in the mail, I always end up needing to make extras so that we can give them to people who we give gift cards to as presents.  This is one of those.  It is on an A2 red base.  I cut a white piece of cardstock to mat on it, and then a piece of green patterned paper out of my "Christmas" drawer to put on top of that.  The ribbon along the bottom is from American Crafts, I believe.

Isn't my yeti cute?  He's from SVG Cuts' Christmas Cuties cutting set.  I outlined his little muscles in Versapen so you could see them better.  Next, I cut him a Santa hat from the Cricut Cartridge Jolly Holidays.  It's hard to tell on this picture, but the hat is cut from glittery paper that I found at Michaels.

I thought he needed to be a little more festive, so I hand-cut some banners and stamped the word NOEL on them using Lawn Fawn's new Milo's ABCs stamp set.  I love the size and font of that alphabet.  It's so perfect.  I strung the banner on some Holly Berry Trendy Twine and tied little bows on the end.

Christmas in July

It is so very not Christmassy here.  It's hot and muggy thunderstorms a couple of times a week.  But, it's never too early to start planning your Christmas crafts, right? 

This card is a 5x5 square card.  It's a white Recollections card base.  I layered a piece of red sparkle paper over it (if you look really hard you can see some sparkle in the picture) and a piece of green chevron paper from my Christmas stash on top of that.  I cut the cute little squirrel from Jolly Holidays at 3 1/4 inches.  I always used to want a pet squirrel, so they have a special place in my heart.  When I was in college I used to feed the fat little campus squirrels straight from my hands.  *memories*

The little sentiment tag is my very favorite, which is on the Sweethearts cartridge.  Both cuts are on foam dots, although the ones behind the sentiment are thicker ones.  I did that so I could stick the two little pins behind the sentiment for some extra embellishment.  To balance it out, I also added three white pearls in the other top corner.

Snowy scene

Happy Friday everyone!  Time for another weekly challenge at Pause, Dream, Enjoy Challenges.  This week, we're answering the question:

Question: Is it SNOWING where you are? 

Theme: MAKE A PROJECT AND INCLUDE SOME SNOW ON IT

I prefer it to not be snowing.  Let's never speak of it again.  ;)

This card is a bigger card than I normally make.  I wanted to be able to include my whole scene, so I pulled out my biggest envelope, measured it, and worked backwards.  It wound up being 5.5 inches tall by 8 inches across.  I wrapped some snowflake ribbon that I had left over after making a dog treat holder for Sophie a few winters ago for the top.  I got it at Hobby Lobby, but I don't know if they still sell it.

My entire scene is cut from Jolly Holidays.  The house is layered on foam dots, the rest of them are adhered directly to the card.  The house is cut at 5 inches, the tree at 4 inches, the birdhouse and mailbox at 3 inches. It's a simple card in terms of not a lot of background, but with so much detail in the cuts I think the simplicity works.

Christmas bird

Today I've got a card with the bird from Jolly Holidays.   I used a background paper from the All Seasons stack from Paper Studio.  I also used some red snowflake ribbon from my stash.  The bird's eye wasn't well defined, so I traced it with white gel pen and then went over that with silver stickles.

It's kind of hard to see in the picture, but I stamped "Merry Christmas" from My Creative Time's 'Gift Card Sentiments' set in the top corner.

Winter Wishes

Now that Christmas is coming closer, I am having a great time with the Jolly Holidays cartridge!  This was the first cut that I made from it back when I bought the cartridge, and then I had put it away in my extras drawer, and decided to pull it out to play with it!  I used white cardstock as my background paper, embossed with the Polka Dots Cuttlebug folder.  I punched it on the edge with the Martha Stewart loops punch.  It's actually a punch around the page punch, but I only wanted the edger for this one.  I used an old scrap of Paper Studios paper for the blue snowflakes on the other side- I have a ton of these because they were leftovers from last year's Christmas cards.  Then I put Mystic Green Stickles on the handle (they're so dark you can't really tell) and used Candy Cane Stickles on the red part of the umbrella to outline it.  

I know that I cut the circle tag from the Cricut, but I can't remember what cartridge it was from.  Any circle would do.  Then I punched it with a regular hole punch and strung some white ribbon through it.  I stamped it in blue with the Stampendous Everything Happy stamp set.

Christmas tag

Today I have a tag to share with you!  I cut this tag from Plantin Schoolbook at 6 inches (which made it 4.5 inches wide).  I used some kraft paper for the shadow and some patterned paper from The Paper Studio for the tag itself.  Then I cut some sea green cardstock to go across the tag where I could stamp the sentiment "Merry Christmas" from My Creative Time's Gift Card Sentiments.  I had to mask the sentiment to get it that far apart, but I wanted the snowgirl in the middle.

The snowgirl is cut at 5.25 inches from Jolly Holidays.  I love the snow people on that cartridge- their smiles are just so me.  I haven't put any ribbon or twine into the hole yet because I haven't decided exactly how I want to use it- as decoration, as a kind of card, or as a tag for a present.

Christmas in August

I was very excited recently to find an affordable Jolly Holidays cartridge.  I'd been looking for it for ages, and am so happy to add it to my collection!  I decided to make a card with one of the cute elves that are found on this card.

I used a red A2 card, with patterned paper from All Seasons 2 from Paper Studio.  The green cardstock was embossed with ProvoCraft's Snowflake embossing folder.  I cut the elf at 3.5 inches.  He was pretty simple to put together, but as with all of the Lite cartridges I was glad that I sat and really looked at what layers were what, because I'm used to cutting the base layer in black on cartridges like Create a Critter but his base layer is actually the white.

I colored his Christmas lights with green and blue Sharpies, because I wanted them to be multicolored.  Then I went over them with Christmas Red and Firefly stickles.
